Help find Sean Sidi

We need your help to find our son

HOW WE FAILED SEAN SIDI

There are no words to express the sense of loss, devastation and agony that torment us every second of each day, since our son Sean (SIDI) vanished from San Francisco, CA on May 21, 2013.

For the rest of our lives, we will live with the guilt of knowing that we failed to protect and locate Sean, when he went missing (on May 21, 2013) and needed us the most. We know that hundreds would have rallied instantly to help us find Sean had there been a way to communicate the call for help to everyone that day.

BUT THE SYSTEM FAILED US, AND WE FAILED SEAN.

In California (unlike some other states whose silver alert includes cognitively impaired young adults), there is NO equivalent of an amber or silver alert for citizens to be on the lookout for a young adult with a serious medical condition.

Instead, one is left to do the best they can - on their own.

It took us 2 days to get media's help. To make matters worse, police erroneously pinged Sean’s phone to a wrong location. By the time police correctly pinged Sean’s phone to the eastern end of Golden Gate Park, almost 10 DAYS after Sean went missing, it was TOO LATE. For the most crucial hours and days after Sean vanished on May 21, 2013 – he was left to fend on his own, ill and in the early stages of recovering from a critical brain injury, (very likely) with no memory of us, wandering - lost and cold. Sean has now been gone for over 8 months.

We will continue to search for Sean until the end. However we are under no illusions as to the possible consequences of our failure to locate Sean, soon after he vanished on May 21, 2013.

UPDATE ON (UNCONFIRMED) VENICE BEACH SIGHTING OF SEAN SIDI

On Sunday 2/2/2014, someone called in a sighting of a very sick young man after seeing Sean’s missing person flier (though sighting of someone w/very short hair). Many volunteers - including veterans living in the area - continue to search for Sean, and post his fliers. Some of you have reported that several homeless individuals claimed to have seen Sean in the area. However, at this point the Venice Beach sighting remains UNCONFIRMED.

Some are skeptical that Sean could have traveled so far in his fragile medical state. The truth is – from what we have learned of the transportation networks used by those living on the streets (and assuming someone took Sean with them) Sean could be much farther. However, it is also true that Sean was very, very ill when he vanished 8 months ago…..and each day weighs heavily.

PLEASE HELP US POST (& REPOST) A FEW OF SEANS FLIERS ANYWHERE IN THE U.S. Please keep an eye out for Sean, particularly among the homeless – WHEREVER you may be.

In Hope,

Claude, Lynn & Danielle

HELP NEEDED - SEAN SIDI SIGHTING AT VENICE BEACH, CA

Someone just called in a “Sean sighting” of a very sick young man at the drum circle (SAT 2/1) at Venice beach, CA. We have called the Santa Monica Police dept. but need help in distributing and posting fliers at or near Venice Beach.

If you know of anyone who is willing to post Sean’s missing person fliers, please contact lynnkching@yahoo.com and we will overnight fliers to you or arrange for you to pick up printed fliers near your location.

The person spoke to “Sean” (yesterday SAT 2/1) because “Sean” seemed VERY, VERY SICK. He was 99% sure that “Sean” wore dental braces. Below is a description of “Sean”, per the person calling in the tip. This person was not aware that Sean was missing, until he saw Sean’s missing person flier at a THRIFT STORE in Colver City, about 3 – 4 miles from Venice Beach. (THANK YOU TO THOSE POSTING ANYWHERE/EVERYWHERE!!)

This is the description of “Sean” by the person calling in the tip:

- Saw “Sean” at DRUM CIRCLE at Venice Beach, CA (Saturday 2/1/14).
- “Sean” looked very, very ill – possibly running a fever;
- “Sean” had dental braces (99% sure);
- “Sean’s” eyes were not focusing;
- Wearing a RED jacket;
- HAIR WAS VERY SHORT (not long and wavy)
- Had piercing on front lip (Sean did not have piercing at time he went missing 8 months ago. However, anything could have happened.

SEAN SIDI FLIERS CONTINUE TO GENERATE TIPS

Thanks to all of YOU posting in MARIN, someone called in a tip from Novato yesterday after seeing Sean’s flier posted at Safeway.  The person who called it in provided very detailed information, which allowed us to locate “Sean”. Unfortunately, it was not Sean.   While we were disappointed, we were glad that we were able to confirm this sighting.

In total, 3 tips were called in over the past 10 days: 2 from Novato and 1 in San Francisco THANKS to so many of you posting and reposting.  In truth, the tips are following the fliers.

We are trying our utmost to get fliers posted in EVERY city in California and beyond.   You can make a big difference in our search for Sean if you can help us post 1 or 2 fliers near you (and re-post the fliers until Sean is found).

If you are willing to post and/or distribute Sean’s fliers (ANYWHERE in the U.S), please email lynnkching@yahoo.com.

SEAN SIDI FAMILY APPEALS TO SAN FRANCISCO POLICE TO ISSUE BOLO in CALIFORNIA

In an effort to locate Sean (SIDI) in time, we have asked San Francisco Police to issue a statewide BOLO (Be on The Lookout) in California, for Sean, age 19, missing from San Francisco CA since May 21, 2013. Below are excerpts of the email we sent to Captain McFadden TODAY. Captain McFadden replaced Captain Jason Fox - who previously handled Sean's case.

WE AWAIT SFPD'S RESPONSE...and will let you know.

Re: Request for... Statewide BOLO for Brain Injured Teen, Sean SIDI

Dear Captain McFadden,

I am the parent of (brain injured teen), Sean SIDI, who has been missing from San Francisco since May 21, 2013.... The purpose of this letter is to request that the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) issue a STATEWIDE ‘Be On the Look Out” (BOLO) for Sean (SIDI). Sean, who is considered “At Risk” by SFPD has now been missing for over 8 months. Per a letter provided SFPD by Dr. Geoff Manley, Sean’s neurosurgeon, Sean’s pre-existing medical condition puts him at high risk of death on the streets.

The issuance of a current statewide BOLO has been strongly recommended by various law enforcement persons in other jurisdictions who we have encountered in the search for Sean…..

During our last meeting with Captain Fox in September 2013, he mentioned that the search for Sean – just 4 months old at that time - was in its early stages, in the context of a missing person’s case. Captain Fox was right. Now - over eight months after Sean went missing – we have yet to find Sean or answers to Sean’s disappearance on May 21, 2013.

..........However, despite the efforts of so many, we believe that the assistance of law enforcement is CRUCIAL in the search for Sean (SIDI). To that end, we are requesting that SFPD issue a statewide BOLO for Sean SIDI.

We fervently hope that you will consider this request. We would be very grateful if you would let us know your decision.

Best Regards,
Lynn Ching and Claude SIDI
